This call-out was originally phrased around divorce, aiming to capture responses to the new ubiquity of separation. We then realised all family set-ups are complex and joyful and hellish in their own way, and warrant inclusion.

This book will document a generation’s relationship with the people that brought it up. This is the first Often and Mistakes Open Call.

In other news I’m playing the Night Of The Triffids extravaganza at Power Lunches on Wednesday night. This is my first show of the year and I’ll be trying out alot of new songs for the first time, so expect it to be messy.

Also playing are Trust Fund, David Leach and Mat Riviere, so it’ll be an awesome night. Doors at 7:30pm and I’m on first, so get there early if you want to catch me.

ok so we’re doing this show on wednesday yep and it’s going to be super you know it’s got some swell bands playing and where is it it’s at power lunches in dalston which is a super place you know it’s a proper venue well that’s what people say though I’m never sure quite what they mean perhaps they mean it’s dark and you can hide in it which is what is makes it important to this random scroll but anyway David Leach who plays brillo uke led heartstring pulling odes to reallife was off on tour and we thought that would be a good reason to do a show i mean why not anyway so we asked Mat Riviere and EXPENSIVE to play and then they said yes which was super cause they’re super and then Trust Fund got in touch and said yes please which was another bonus cause he is also brilliant and it was all going so swell let me tell you but then sadly last week due to realife EXPENSIVE had to drop out which was sad cause due to this mishmash being a reprobate it had missed them on two previous golden opengoal absolute sitter Kanu opportunities in the past but never mind so we thought Mat Riviere and David Leach and Trust Fund is still a real super gig right like one would go to that if they had three pounds and enjoy it immensely but then like a sliderule pass we thought crikey we could ask Fulhäst who we like very much and maybe he’d say yes and then oh horror oh technological horror the email never got through so we texted him this evening in a pushy fashion just three days prior to the gig and oh my he said yes and now it’s now and we can just be the usual nervous state of pre gig vibrations that you would expect three days before the show did i mention it was on wednesday at power lunches okay three pounds yep kewl.

The Middle Ones play quiet/loud lo-fi indie folk. They live on opposite ends of the country now. Go see them if you like Rose Melberg, Marine Girls, having your heart warmed thoroughly.

Ace Bushy Striptease is a punk band from Birmingham. Mostly loud chaotic pop. Informed by the likes of Pavement, Los Campesinos + Brand New.

Here is a single, in advance of our album out in 2013.

‘Beyoncé Eyes’ is taken from the upcoming album and the latter, “Another Pizza, Another Planet’, is a re-record of one of our old songs.

‘Beyoncé Eyes’ is about things going flat, like an old pop. I do something a thousand times and nothing changes, but everything could be different the thousand-and-first time.

‘Another Pizza, Another Planet’ is about moving to Fenham, getting the bus home, sitting on the top deck, and listening to The Pirates of the Carribean theme.
